Slimane did not want to lose his creative freedom, sell his name, and lose the management of his own brand. He left for US, joined his friend and started a new project, "Young American", which was partly shown at FOAM museum in July 2007. Isaac Ferry, the son of rocker Bryan Ferry, made his catwalk debut at one of Slimane's shows when he was 16 years old, among many young rock stars. He has started a large amount of careers in the model industry.
Slimane interest for indie rock started a whole movement in fashion. His silhouette and attitude have been adopted widely on a street level. he also started a few British bands, among them Eight legs, and These New Puritans.
Hedi Slimane lives between Paris and Los Angeles.
Slimane was misquoted in many interviews as saying that he survives on a delicately balanced diet and prefers food that he doesn't have to chew much. The mistake came from from a mistranslation: "baby food", means "comfort food" in French. He does not drink, smoke or do drugs. He designs on his own."

Why I'm so into Hedi Slimane it's pretty simple hes a designer that brought indie rock and roll look to mainstream high fashion through his position as creative director of Dior Homme,I've always been a lover of indie rock n roll not only the music but the whole lifestyle behind it,the carefree and easy feelings associated with the whole indie movement, the whole independent and do whatever the artist pleases without the pressure to make big money it's really respectable. And as a fashion photographer he's very into Black and White pictures,if you know me well you'd know that I dig BnW pictures ALOT.and there's this quote from GQ magazine "some designer makes really beautiful clothes, some designers change the way we dress and hedi slimae has done both"
