Music:White Shoes and The Couples Company

I was watchin tv yesterday and watched the wonderful program of Chanel V Amp in Asia which they introduce alot of underground or some not so underground bands in our region and this wonderful indonesian band Whites Shoes and The Couples Company was featured.A few listen to their songs im totally sold, their music is one fo the sweetest ive ever heard dreamy but not to a point that it gets too sleepy its just fine. And another thing ive to talk bout is the drummer, the way he drums and his drum kit produces the drum beats and sounds similiar to those of old school jazz drummer (eg. max roach and buddy rich) and thats as impressive as a drummer can get,he also drums with a traditional grip something i really respect and like but cant manage to do it myself.Another thing distinct bout them is their commitment to vintage-ism lol i used the word commit cause they not only play music that sounds old school, they also dress the part and even their album artwork and music video everything is very vintage-ish.Their music is influenced by 70's indonesia movie soundtrack,30's jazz and 60's harmony music u cant get more vintage than that lol and i also note some influence of bossa nova in their music,i like bossa nova.I'm starting to love my neighbouring country lol they make good tasteful music and they also snaps good pictures. Before this the only thing i kno bout em is how they anti chinese lol

From wikipedia:

"White Shoes & The Couples Company are an Indonesian pop/funk/jazz band from Jakarta. The band are currently signed to both Indonesian label Aksara Records and American independent label Minty Fresh based in Chicago.[1]

White Shoes & The Couples Company consists of Aprilia Apsari, Saleh, Yusmario Farabi, John Navid, Ricky Virgana, and Aprimela Virgana. Apsari and Farabi, who are currently dating, met each other while they were both studied at the fine art faculty in Institut Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Institute Of The Arts). The two formed the band with their colleague, Saleh in 2002. In 2004, Ricky Virgana, John Navid and Aprimela Prawidyanti Virgana (Ricky Virgana’s wife) joined later.[2]The band came up with the name due to the fact of the fad of wearing white shoes at the school where they met and the two romantically-involved couples that are in the band. The band sing the majority of their songs in their native tongue of Bahasa.[3]

Their music is influenced by Indonesian movie soundtracks from the 1970's, 1930's jazz and 60's harmony pop music.

In 2005, the band released their self-titled album on Aksara Records. In 2007, they released an EP titled Skenario Masa Muda in 2007. Eventually, the band was signed by Minty Fresh and re-released their self-titled album for an international release.

The band was honored by Rolling Stone as one of the best 25 bands on MySpace. They were also honored by Allmusic as one of the 25 most crushworthy bands of 2006.[4]"
